Be a good team player enginner
Today's high technology industries grow very fast. It is more and more require engineers be good team players. As we known, teamwork plays a significant role in concurrent engineering. How can you be a good team player engineer?
The key answer for this question is balance and compatibility. A team of engineers may include highly competent individuals who come with their different background, work styles and personalities. The team member should be able to balance their function/role to the team performance. If one only focuses on his individual performance or accomplishment instead of the whole team performance alone, it can result in strong competitiveness among the team member at the expense of team interest and achievement. Experience has shown that team effectiveness is improved when both team and individual function are balanced as significant. However, only balance itself can't guaranty success. If team members do not work well together, it will prolong the team's efforts and lower the team's performance. It is right that working well with other people cannot be done without other people. A good team player needs to learn how to deal with the diversity among team member, how to resolve conflict options and how to assistant new team members into the team. Therefore, compatibility is necessary for a successful team. Of course, balance and compatibility do not mean you need to give up your own options on the team efforts. Only when the above two keys are taking good care, a team can be a high performance team.
