During this emotional time of her life, she is trying to be protective of her father, the ex-commissioner of the New York City Police force, while keeping her Madison Avenue boutique in business. Neeve realizes that it’s time for her to move on and continue with her own life. She also realizes that it’s time to give her father a little room to move around once again. Over a small period of time, Neeve’s maturity level rises by allowing her to focus on other things, such as her love of life. The character growth shown by Mary Higgins Clark in the character of Neeve Kearny is extraordinarily remarkable and definitely enhances the realism of the various characters in this book.
