A jest of God

The book "A Jest Of God" has many similarities and

differences with the book we read "The Death Of The

Salesman". These books has identical theme and conflicts

between these books. Also you can easily see the similarities

between the two book's main characters. Rachel from “A

Jest Of God” was an elementary school teacher who dreams

having many adventures in her life however her

responsibilities to her mother kept her away from doing this.

In the other hand, Willy from the “Death Of A Salesman”,

was an unemployed old man who hoped to restore his son’s

life because he feels he was the main cause of the

destruction of his career. Both character suffers from

constant hallucinations to escape of their sad life. Also both

The story of “The Death Of A Salesman” is about Willy

Loman, a father who deminish the chances of his son getting

into a good college. He later realized having affairs will

never have a good effect in life. Willy constantly returns to

his past life to escape his painful reality. He can’t see the

difference between fantasy and reality. He can’t understand

that being very successful in life is just a fantasy for him. No

matter how much you can hope, you can’t achieve

something until you take the matters into your hands.

The story of “A Jest of God” is about Rachel Cameron, a

elementary school teacher who lives in a dull adult life. She

lives with her mother since her father died. She never had a

man in her life until an old childhood school friend , Nick

Kazlik who came to visit the town to visit his parents. They

quickly becomes lovers and spend nights together .They

found themselves into trouble when Rachel realized her

period suddenly stop. Nick could not handle the

responsibilities of being a father so he took off cowardly

leaving her behind. Rachel later discovers that she was not

pregnant afterall. Rachel and her mother later moves into a

new place to live hoping to get a better life.

Each of the main characters of the books have many

similarities. Rachel and Willy both have a cruel reality.

Rachel who is stuck with her mother is desperately seeking

for the love of her of life. As for Willy, he never realized how

much effort must be taken to live well in life. Willy could

have done well in life if he saw his true talents not his

fantasy. Rachel also failed to see that life has challenges and

should make the best out of it. She could have seen that she

still have friends who cares for her very much. Both never

understand how to live their life into the fullest.

Nick is similar to the blonde whore in “The Death Of

The Salesman”. It’s only a game to use people to get

something that they want. They slept with other people

dispite the fact they don’t really cares for them a lot. Rachel

only slept with Nick hoping to improve their relationship. The

truth was that most men only wants sex not any kind of long
