Like for instance, one day, the master and someone else were talking about the slaves they were going to sell, so the master said, "We'll sell R-U-F-U-S". The slave heard this, and relayed the information to his fellow slaves so that Rufus could do something to prevent him from being sold.
To me, this book was a great learning experience. It not only taught me about the hardships and pure torture of slavery, but I also learned about the lighter side of slavery. Some people might findthis book confusing because of the fact that there isn't any main character or setting but, I probably wouldn't have read this book if it wasn't for those same reasons. This is a very good book, and I suggest that you read it.
