The Witches of Eastwick is already in the canon, and rightfully so. John Updike may not use every single literary device, but the imagery and characters serve the story very well. Everyone needs an escape at one time or another, and this unique novel definitely fills that void in the literary canon. The fact that the author is a man and that he wrote so well from women’s point of view in this book is commendable and another reason why his novel is in the canon and should stay there. John Updike’s novel can be read over and over, and the reader would discover something new each time. This book is one of the best discoveries a reader can make when searching for the guilty pleasure of escape in a world full of morals.
