Wolf by Gillian Cross
We feel this because the character has done something un-just or un-fair. He is seen through out the novel in unclear and fast sequences. Whenever Mick is brought up in a conversation, the subject is changed. This happens in the middle of the novel where they think a “landlord” is breaking into the house to get them out. They all think this but not Goldie. She wakes up one night and sees Goldie leave the house and travel around to the alley way to the side of the house. Cassy follows her and sees that Goldie is staring up into space. Cassy wakes her from her illusion and Goldie becomes startled and starts screaming. Around the end of the middle of the novel, Cassy receives a letter from the masked man stating that he wants his plastic explosive back or her Nan gets murdered. Cassy starts realizing what is happening and gets anxious and nervous. She finds out that her own father is an IRA bomber and is planning to make another attack. Cassy leaves to her nans house to find Mick sitting in a chair pointing a gun straight at his own daughter’s chest and her Nan face upside down in the bath. WE feel that this situation is unfair and wrong.
The characters in any book are based upon what the novel is about and what it is trying to achieve. In many different genres you may find all the baddies win in unfair manners or everyone lives happily ever after. These all relate to how the characters are defined and brought up through a novel.
