With the Blink of an Eye
The tree goes green, and the foot goes down. Sixty feet and one second later, they’ve hit 100 mph.
Daryl had experienced these thrills hundreds of times and come close to death to many of times. Those thoughts were deep in his mind, only remembering the perfect runs that had brought him to this very point. Mind clear, no fear, and ride like the wind was his motto, which he perfected to an art but only prayed that he could do it this day as well. His opponent across the way was somebody he had not had much luck with in the past. In three previous meetings he had beaten him by only three tenths of a second, and today wanted to reverse the roll with invigorating fashion. As he glanced at him for the last time before the race, fear was not option, and victory was only sixty feet away. So with a blink of an eye he saw the tree turn green, engine roaring in the back of his ears, and rubber burning at his heels, blasted off the finish line with no regrets. Before he knew it he passed the finish line, not in second, but in first as he had imagined all along.
For the next few moments he just yelled at the top of his lungs with enjoyment, and tears fell down his face as if he had won the World Series of drag racing. With glaring satisfaction he soaked in the moment with his friends and family, he knew that he had accomplished something he had dreamt as a little boy.
