Vengance is mine INC.
The characters in “Vengeance is Mine INC” are made out to be neither entirely good, nor entirely bad. It is in this way that he enables the characters to carry out devious and creative deeds without giving the impression that they are bad. The things they do, suggest, (at different times) that they are in fact doing the community a favour.
George and Claude (narrator) are roommates together, and whilst reading the paper one morning, and discussing their financial problems, Claude comes up with a plan that would seemingly make them rich. They plan to cause bodily, or mentally harm to the journalists that humiliate high profile members of the community in their tabloid columns. Their main target is the well-known journalist, Lionel Pantaloon, whom has humiliated many top-class people.
The two are doing a bad thing by society because, it is against the law. They take exploit people with large sums of money, who have been gossiped about in journalist columns, by catching them, when they are angry after reading what has been said about them. They promise to do one or more of a number of tasks to the specific journalist, in exchange for a large payment of money. Although the tasks are barely deadly, they still involve some risk in them. Not only the risk of causing serious damage to the selected person, but the risk of getting caught, which could end up as time spent in jail.
On the other hand, George and Claude are right in doing this. “Gossip” Column writer’s humiliated people of the public in order to provide a juicy story or rumor. Therefore, logic tells us they should be punished. George and Claude are in a way doing a favour for the society in warning off (to a degree) the writers that occupy front pages with their rubbish. These people deserve to be taught a lesson, and through physical damage, they will hopefully learn to have a little restraint when talking about respected members of the upper class. As well as teaching them a lesson, the two roommates are giving the offended a chance to laugh at their aggressor, a chance that not many people would pass up.
Also to be taken into consideration is the price of the deeds. George and Claude set up a price list, ranged between UK$500-2500 depending on the nature of the feat. The idea was designed so that the two men could make some money, as they were flat broke, and under-qualified for any job.
Reasons combined, the things George and Claude did were both good and bad, but after considering a number of factors, the good outweighs the bad.
