A critique on Missisipi Massala

wanted her to marry Harry, a rich Indian man who was actually quite interested in Mina. Mina, however, didn’t think there was anything wrong with cleaning toilets as she was then, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with dating outside of her race and she didn’t think that there was anything wrong with losing her virginity before she was married although her parents were strongly against that. For her parents, Mina losing her virginity was a disgrace to the honor of her family; despite this occurrence her parents were willing to take her back into their house. The problem with that however was that she had changed…she wanted to live her life the way she wanted and in the end she did. I felt bad for her while she lived with her parents because she felt caged and she was already 24. It was a bit ridiculous that she had to ask her parents for permission to go out at that age.

The moral of this story was that you should act on love when you feel it or you might regret it. Mina acted on her instincts and left with Demetrius despite the fact that her parents would be very upset and that she would have to leave their side. She didn’t want to live with the regret of not seeing Demetrius again. Her father, on the other hand, didn’t say goodbye to his friend in Uganda and regretted it when he went back to find that he had died a long time ago. As he said, “So little love, yet so much. I never took the time to say goodbye, ” he regretted it, but Mina didn’t make the same mistake.
