to great lengths to describe to the reader what it is like to live with cerebral palsy and I believe that anyone who is unfamiliar with that sort of life should pick up this book. Those who lead similar lives should also read this book as they may find an instant connection.
I was extremely impressed by Nolan’s story and I would definitely recommend this book. The fact that he was even able to accomplish writing a story like this really makes me think twice about the abilities of such individuals. His book is very successful in introducing the experience and social meaning of disability. It succeeds both as pure artistry and as a window into the world of the disabled. As a society we often ridicule and judge without really knowing the truth about people. We assume things because we are naпve and we underestimate a person because we look for the weaknesses rather than the strengths. But it is quite apparent that Christopher Nolan has great strength and power; his writing reveals it all. It shows us that his handicap is "a positive factor rather than a modifying condition in his impressive achievement.” Although this novel only opens our eyes to a small piece of the issue it still has made its contribution. Nolan has provided us with a strong first step. It is now up to us to learn the rest of the reality of disability.
