Upton Sinclair's The Jungle
in the first part of the book. It seems as though Sinclair truly saw Socialism as a cure all for society and tried to get us deeply sympathetic and desperate for reform, just as Jurgis was when he happened upon the warm bar. If I had read the book in the early 1900’s I may have been persuaded, but now that I know how Socialism actually functioned under human authority and how Capitalism has functioned, I am not so easily swayed. The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was interesting allegories between the way humans sometimes treat other humans and the way animals treat others in the wild.
