“I hardly never seen two guys travel together,” Slim said to George one day. But George and Lennie did. They were inseparable. Occasionally, George would become aggravated with carrying the burden of constantly looking out for Lennie. But deep down, he knew that he was all Lennie had. They had become a family. And George had given Lennie the greatest gift he possibly could have. Lennie’s dream of owning a farm and “tending the rabbits” was his own little heaven on earth. And if dying in a state of complete and utter happiness at the merciful hand of his only true friend was not God’s will for Lennie, then I don’t what was.
