The analysis of "The Client" by John Grisham

find the path to that world, the way leading to the hearts of people without past and without future.

Huge law firms do not trouble about the poor, they defend only the rights of those who pay a lot. It does not matter that they can ruin somebody’s life. And one very special case of “Drake & Sweeney” is connected with the homeless, namely with “Mister” who was shot in the firm, the young mother and her four children who died in midwinter, and some other poor people who were also evicted from the house they rented, and given into the hands of cold and death. Michael Brock’s former law firm “Drake & Sweeney” is responsible for that. “Mister” had been in and out of homeless shelters most of his life, but he had recently begun paying rent for living in one building. He was not a squatter any more. But the company with immense pride and ego - “Drake & Sweeny” - evicted him with no warning and no evidence in the middle of winter. That is why “Mister” came to the firm and left his life there. He wanted to prove that he and many others were treated in an unfair way. Having learnt that, Michael Brock feels responsible for the sufferings of the homeless. He is also one small bolt of the same law machine. His personal guilt, genuine remorse leads him into the streets to become an advocate for the homeless. From this moment he has an aim to help such people as his captor, who are fighting and sacrificing their lives for justice. And Michael Brock takes his ex-law firm in a vicious battle for the rights of the drown-trodden. He even stoles a file from “Drake & Sweeney” with the evidence against it. Virtually, a theft can not be justified from the point of legality, but Michael does that having a noble purpose - to protect the poor, to eliminate injustice. For “Drake & Sweeney” the main thing in the world is its reputation and … money. As if there is nothing else in the world only pride and wealth. As if there are no other virtues, values. Michael is Judas in the eyes of the law firm, only he has the power to take the mask off its face, to highlight its dirty secrets. “Drake & Sweeney” wants blood, and in a way it gets it - it proves Michael’s theft.

And here the thriller reaches its climax: the law firm, “Drake & Sweeney”, does not want the society to know about its indecent secret and silently proposes a truce to Michael Brock. Michael renounces his right to practise law for nine months, but he gets much more from it. That little sacrifice is really nothing in comparison with the help for the homeless: he gets a significant sum of money from the firm which will be a great support for the street people. In such a way “Drake & Sweeney” admits its guilt and injustice [next page]
