The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, is a great American novel because the main character searches for an easy way to enter into the world of adulthood, the interaction of the characters is entertaining, and the author’s life is reflected in the book. These are only three reasons why this novel is so great. The novel had confusing messages at times, but all of them were unleashed in the end. “Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.” One can see from the last couple of sentences from The Catcher in the Rye, that this is a great American novel.
