solidified family. Momma is who receives the inheritance money (from her husband’s death) and she invests it in what she believes will keep her family together; a family house. Momma is not troubled by the fact that the house is in the middle of a “white” neighbor hood, nor that her son has plans of his own for her money. She is convinced that by her family having something of their own, and something to invest themselves in, that her family will be unified for years to come. All her actions (although they may seem senseless) are to help her family be stronger. Even when she gives her son, the only money they have left, she is doing it with the thought of him being proud of having something of his own. Pride, love and unity was all mamma was about. And it was that which kept the Younger family together through the poverty, the trials, and the heartaches.

Walter Lee, Ruth and Momma, although three different people with different personalities, and different ideas, were working to make life better for their family. The impoverished surroundings, circumstances, nor riches could tear down the wall of love within this family. The trials only taught the family that family was all that mattered, and love was all that could keep it together. Each member by adding a portion of what led the Younger family to a unified family.
