The Color Purple - Novel Analysis

symbolizes the journey of life that both Celie and Nettie have traveled. Although they were apart, their bond was stronger than ever.

The horror or domestic violence, to both children and wives, is clearly depicted in “The Color Purple.” The two main recipients of the violence in the novel are Celie and Sophia, who both experience abuse in their childhood and in their marriages. Tormented by white racist violence and its constant threat, the rural African-American Southerners form a tight-knit community; however, they destroy themselves from within by abusing and belittling their women. This novel teaches women alike that when they come together to share their pain and joys, they realize that they deserve better and can work together to improve their plights.
