Why Did The Korean War Break Out In 1950?

Domino Theory ment to the US that if nothing was done, neighbouring states would fall victim to communism aswell, and they figured that with a firm stand-up response, they would rapidly crush the Soviets and communism. If the US had not done anything, they may have been seen as soft, so they took it as a test of their ability to resist communism, a test of credibility. Also, this was a chance to put NSC68 into practice.

Overall, there were different causes, long term and short term. People were on edge and everyone was suspitious anyway. One of the main long term causes was the initial division of North and South Korea, if they weren't divided then they could not fight against eachother. The communist take-over of China was threatening but Kim Il Sung was a solid cause for the actual invasion, Stalin was thinking of what he could gain from Korea, Mao only wanted Taiwan and to confine the regime. But Kim wanted a strong, communist Korea. Well its pretty crappy if you're looking for something decent, it basically just outlines some cases for the cause of why the Korean War broke out. I got a C for it so dont get your hopes up, but it could always be modified.
