Why United States waged war with Britain
January 1776. He stated in this pamphlet, “… tell me … fire and sword into your land … .” This biased statement proved that he blamed the British for bringing hate and war into the colonies. He tried, in his articles, to convince the colonists that the only way to reach independence was to go to war with the motherland. Many people relied on the information in his articles to help them with their decisions about the conflict with England. He was firm in his opinion that war was inevitable and America’s only course.
On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress to gain independence from the social tyrant, Britain. This document stated that the King of Great Britain had a history of unjust decisions and repeated injuries over the states. It stated that, “We have Petitioned … been answered … by repeated injury…” This statement from the Declaration of Independence showed that the colonists had an unfavorable opinion of the king. He was proven to be an unfit ruler of free people. The Declaration of Independence is explicit in explaining the kings actions and the ultimate establishment of freedom in the colonies.
The war with Great Britain was the culmination of many acts against the Colonies that justified their fight for independence. Parliament constantly imposed laws raising revenues. The British also exercised unlimited powers to control the Colonies. Most Americans blamed the British for bringing hate and dissention to their homeland. The Declaration of Independence explains why the colonies went to war with Great Britain.
