the Battle of Thames compensated for their defeats. During the Battle of Lake Erie, Oliver Perry, still unhurt had gone on board the Niagara and with small vessels bearing down on the enemy soon defeated two ships of the British thus changing the horrors of defeat into shouts of victory.

Eventually both the Americans and the British regarded the differences they had fought over were but minor disputes. Though the war between the U.S. and Britain seemed impractical and unnecessary because no decisive victor emerged from the conflict, the effects that followed developed a strong and lasting friendship between the Americans and British in decades following the War of 1812.
