War Poetry

get the readers attention and cap off the great use of detail and description. They both give a real description of the conditions of the war, and just how miserable it would have been. This makes me reflect on what my relatives who were in the war had to go through, and how bad it must have been. I think that if it does that to me, the writers have obviously got across their point. In my view, these poems were both written to maximise getting this point across, and did this using the descriptive detail that they both contain. The last verse in Wilfred Owens poem really was the main bit that caught my eye. It was very well set out, and used a very negative outlook by talking about very bad and disgusting images. All of this was done using personification and metaphors. “ His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin, if you could hear at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs.” This quote puts a huge image in the readers mind.

Both of these poems were written to get a point across. They were both very anti-war orientated, and the writer was trying to portray this to the reader. They both did this by using Metaphor, Simile and personification style in their writing. They gave very on depth descriptions of the conditions and death in the trenches. It was these kind of details and the way that the poems were both set out that really got this across to the readers. Both of the poems use such a kind of detail in their description that it puts the image into the readers mind. Even though they were both structured differently, they both have the same effect by showing the truth about a miserable, unforgettable, death ridden war.
