Was the spanish Inquisition cruel
"Spain escaped remarkably lightly". There was few Protestants to speak of in Spain and they were quickly wiped out nyway.
Finally when all other heretics were eradicated the Inquisition turned to Catholics themselves. They called up those that were involved with "bigamy, fornication, sodomy and blasphemy" all moral sins. This was often unfairly done though as the Inquisition was secretive anyone culd be accused of anything, faith was not really a issue anymore, Cathlics could use the Inquisition to settle old scores and often the person accused didnt know what they were being accused of. It seemed on the surface a time of religous zeal but the it was an unsafe time.
In conclusion the Inqusition was harsh towards some and was safer for Spain in the long run. As for the Moriscos Spain could not afford to have that threat again and so they had to be broken up, the Jews were asked to leave because of increasing anti semitism and bloodshed. However the Catholics diod not deserve what they got as many became very conscious if his or her actions were at all suspicious. Anyone could be tried and punished making it a dangerous place to live
