While researching for this essay I do have to admit a lot of the information I found on chaos theory, Mandelbrot set, Sierpinski triangle and many others seemed like the information that was being explained was way above me and hard for me to read and understand. Thankfully after a lot of studying and a lot of reading I am able to understand fractals for the most part. Fractals are used in our everyday life; we deal with them while at work, taking walks, the weather, and even in our math class. In the next three paragraphs I will explain how fractals take part in my life everyday, what fractal reveal about the world we live in, and how fractals play a role in math 150. After learning about fractals I now look at the world and everything in it differently.
I have learned that chaos seems to be everywhere! My brother works as a graphic designer and uses Mandelbrot set in many of his catchy and colorful advertisements everyday. I have never looked at any of his designs more differently than I do now. Knowing that each part of a design when looked at in a smaller scale is more and more detailed. When I do my laundry I now understand that I might set two loads of laundry on the same normal cycle with cold water but the clothing in each load inside might get washed differently than the other. All depending on were the water and soap hit the most. I am a nurse in a residential facility and many of my patients have died from cancer. To some people it might look like our patients are just old and cancer is something that happens to people that get old but if you look into there history smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol could have helped play a role in some cases.
Up until writing this report I would have said that every week that went by repeated itself. To me every week is the same. I go to school on the same days as the week before and work the same as the week before. Chaos theory reveals that my life and every one else around me form patterns in there life. I might go to school on the same days as the week before but I won’t be learning the same things and it wont take the exact same time to get to school as last week. As for work I might come and go the same as last week but I won’t be dealing with the same exact problems as the week before. Fractals reveal that our lives and our experiences will never be repeated they will form patterns.
Fractals play a big part in math. In order to find a certain length or demension you use fractals. There might be one right answer to geometry question but many different [next page]
