casualties because suicide bombers never attack Army locations and soldiers. So now that you know what a suicide bomber actually does, I’ll try to explain just why they commit these acts of terrorism.
One of the biggest problems of combating suicide bombings is the way the potential suicide bombers are brought up. Starting from preschool, Palestinian children are taught to hate Jews. Being broadcast over the Arabic t.v. waves, young kids watch a show similar to sesame street, called “Children’s Club”, complete with puppet shows, songs, and even Mickey Mouse, focused on the intense hatred of Jews, and glorifying a perpetual jihad against Israel. One part of the show has children singing a song about wanting to become a “suicide warrior” and take up machine guns against Israelis. One of the phrases of the show is “when I wander into Jerusalem, I will become a suicide bomber”, imagine hearing that come from a 10 year olds mouth. Now aside from being taught from such a young age to hate Jews, the majority of Palestinians live in poverty. Because of the poor living conditions, Arabic leaders know they will do almost anything to improve the situation. So instead of giving money to the community, Saudi Arabia and many other Arab countries pay the families of suicide bombers. On average, the family of a suicide bomber will receive at least $5,000. Just in 2000 alone, over 200 families of suicide bombers were paid. In addition to just getting money for their family, suicide bombers are brainwashed into thinking that what they are doing is a holy act, and they will get into heaven for doing this. What would be better for a poor family then getting $5,000 and having their son sent straight to heaven. So you can see how part of the main problem of preventing suicide bombings is that since Palestinians are taught to hate Jews from such an early age, they are just about impossible to reason with, so Israel must come up with other ideas to stop the attacks.
Since you can’t really reason with a suicide bomber, the most important thing Israel can do to prevent attacks is to just increase security. Just as there are always guards at every entrance at airports throughout the US, Israel has a guard at the entrance to nearly any public place-- a mall, a restaurant, or even just a McDonald’s, but although having security at every entrance definitely helps, its not a complete solution, just because when a suicide bomber reaches the guard at the door, they will usually set off the bomb at that point. What really needs to be done is to improve the road blocks at the entrances and exits of Palestinian territories to prevent the bombers from even reaching Israeli cities.
