Recommendations
When the database software needs to replaced, the bank faced alternative solutions: 1. develop a system by its own with IBM¡¯s local assistance. 2. Buy an existing system, Burroughs 6700 system. The latter had been chose. In my point of view, the firm can solve its specific difficulties and constraints by building its own system and the created system will well match the requirements of organisation and fit into the business operation. Additional, the company took risk to buy an existing system if the old systems are replaced by exiting system overnight. It may cause operating difficulties and failure occur because employee may not master this new system, which emphasis on high-level languages and sophisticated operating system, in a short time. Alternatively, the old system can be replaced step by step by created system. It may a more flexible and efficient way and keep failure occur in a minimum rate.
