Blogs and Advertising
bloggers is not going to work. I can take or leave the $85 I earn from Google AdSense . . . it does not matter to me. It matters to me that I have freedom to say what I want to say. And, as this is my blog, I shall say whatever I want to say.
If Google AdSense wants advertisements of theirs to be shown on blogs, then it needs to roll with the punches. Google AdSense cannot and should not try to control what bloggers say. By controlling what bloggers say, Google AdSense will kill blogging . . . as blogging is the place where humans can be humans, and where we should be free to do anything lawful that we so choose to do.
On the other hand, bloggers should not suck up to Google AdSense. If you do, you are responsible for killing blogging, as many people read my blog because I say what I want to say, and they read Dave Winer because he can and does say what he wants to say.
Bloggers, if you want to say what you want to say, and Google AdSense turns advertising on your site off, then use another system of advertising like BlogAds.
Google Commentary
Every company that gains power begin dictating the terms and conditions of association. Microsoft does as it has a huge marketplace from which it is milking money. Google has been the love affair of the Internet -- everyone loves Google. However, as soon as Google tells me what I can and cannot say, inlcuding Google AdSense, this is the time I, on my own blog, say enough it enough!!
If I cannot discuss the results of Google AdSense on my site because I display Google AdSense advertisements, then I will not display Google AdSense advertisements anymore. AND if enough of us do this, then Google AdSense will have lost a great revenue stream and will lose out to an advertising business that will allow me to say whatever I please.
Bloggers . . . be bloggers and not wimps swaying with whatever monetary breeze may flow today!! I prize freedom to say what I want to say more than I prize the little money I get from advertising on my blogsite. AND if the Google AdSense advertising is no longer at the top of this page, you will know that Google AdSense have turned my advertising off because of what I have said here. So be it if that happens, but I will be free to say what I want to say, when I want to say it. My blog will remain my blog . . . it will be me and me alone!!
