The continues improvements of IT-systems and the ability to execute based on proven technology are essential for the development of Vos Logistics. Vos wants to perform as a chain manager and E-commerce is considered to be vital for this development. The management of information flows is namely crucial in controlling the supply chain, which results in lower total logistic cost.
Vos Logistics therefor devotes considerable attention to leading-edge information and communication technology in order to deploy its fast-growing vehicle fleet effectively, take full advantage of economies of scale as and when they occur, and promote chain integration.
Information Systems at Vos Logistics
To manage the information flow Vos Logistics has developedits own fleet management system called LOVOS. By using satellite communication and 24 hour per day status reporting all trucks throughout Europe can be managed. The capabilities of the LOVOS-system allow Vos to grow and deliver Internet based fleet management and on-line analytical tools to realise control throughout the supply chain.
In addition to LOVOS, Vos uses LOTREX, CAL and ETIS IT systems. The LOTREX system supports stock management, forwarding records and intermodal transport. CAL is a stock system that manages the entire goods flow of a customer. The ETIS distribution system is used for the handling of goods that pass through the warehouses of Vos Logistics.
LOVOS
The showpiece of Vos Logistics, supporting the core business, is LOVOS. On April 6 1998 Vos Logistics presented their unique software package called LOVOS 98. It was the foundation of the by Director Willem van Riesen proposed expansion: ”Until now, we have provided shippers with a service based on our own fleet. Now we aim to build an entirely new level of service, becoming a macro manager of goods flows throughout Europe, utilising the services and road fleets of other physical distribution trucking companies.”
