Basic accountancy! How to cash up.
you write how many vouchers there are, and in the larger box write the total value.
Cheques
When cashing up cheques make sure all the appropriate information is written on the cheque. This includes:
· Payment to UCI UK LTD
· The correct date
· Amount written matches amount in numerals
· Check it has been signed.
· Make sure that a cheque guarantee card number, issue number (if applicable) and an expiry date has been written on the back.
Do not write anything on the cheque. Again in the smaller box in the cheque section of the close out form fill in the number of cheques taken for that till, and the larger box is used for the amount.
Till Total
The overall till total is found from adding your total cash figure to your voucher, gift cert and cheque figures. All of these figures added together are your till total which gets written in the bottom box of the close out form.
You should now be able to cash up a till.
Checking Your Money and Banking
· Firstly make sure all of your floats have the correct amounts of money in them. If they don’t have the correct bags, put notes to the value of the bag in their place and make sure the manager makes the float up with change from the safe.
· Once all of the floats have been made up you are left with your Cash On Table (COT). The important thing to note is that THIS FIGURE CANNOT CHANGE. You can’t change the amount of money that you are left with, therefore no adding or taking away of any amount.
· On a piece of paper set out a grid like on the banking slip.
· Now count all of your money, coins and notes.
· Place all counted money in separate bags. This includes notes (if you reach £1000 in £20 or £10 notes use a coloured slip and make a bundle wrapping the notes with the slip, do this when reaching £500 in £5 notes).
· Once all the money has been counted, add all the figures. This is your COT total that cannot change.
· The COT figure should match all your total cash figures added together from your tills. Just cash not vouchers, cheques, gift certificates, etc.
· If the figure does not match then somewhere along the line a mistake has been made whilst counting. Add all figures up again as a check. Get the till theoretical totals off of the close of day system (see Reports section). Check the theoretical totals with your totals.
· If your COT is higher than your till figures you must add the difference to the till that is down the most. If the COT figure [next page]
