Recently, we witnessed few incedants where some individual(s) take advantage of the trust, and lack of knowledge of latest security issues concerning PCs some of the players have. Those individuals send a malicious programs, called "Trojan Horses" that allow them to gain full control over one's PC and use it as a "zombie" machine or just extract information about the victim him/herself, these info include login information (usernames, IDs and passwords).
Some of the players on NATO have access to their clans' management panels, this gave those individuals the ability to mess around with those clans and remove all players off them, and even post disturbing messages on the clans' Profile on NATO.
I have to stress that such activities are ILLEGAL and that I believe we gathered enough information regarding the possible individual responsable for these actions, and this is a warning to that individual, a final warning, cease or be reported to your ISP for further investigation. if you have ANY doubt what so ever regarding our seriousness on this particular issue, I invite you to try what you did again, and you'll have a more "clear" response!
To all NATO Players
Your account on NATO is YOURS and YOURS ALONE, we do our part of ensuring it's security against any un-authorized access, but having your password stolen by any mean (such as in this case by a "Trojan horse") is beyond our responsibility, and basically impossible for us to prevent, so I encourage everyone to follow a few simple and very helpfull steps to protect yourselves from account login theft, or privacy invasion:
1- DO NOT accept files that are executables over email, IRC, Instatant Messaging or any other mean of transmission unless it's from a reliable source (reliable source could be a well known company, not your best friend, your friends could play you for fool and send you Trojan Horses)
2- Install a firewall, there is a selection of firewalls out there, I suggest ZoneAlarm , This is a free download has enough functions to get you going.
3- Install an anti virus, or spyware detection software, I suggest Ad-Aware for spyware removal, and AVG Anti-Virus , this is the free version, should work just fine. There are other options though, more ppl. will post about it on the comments section.
please take care of your PCs, it's not safe accepting any files and just go on about your life without a firewall on your PC, unless you know exactly what are you doing.
Hope this helps clearifies some of the issues, and help you guys protect yourselves.
