He found all the answers in Jungian Analytical Psychology. In many other traditions, light is considered to be symbol for consciousness. Light illuminates the world and brings it into awareness. Darkness is primarily a symbol for that which is not illuminated in consciousness. Darkness therefore represents a level of our being that is outside our conscious knowledge and control. Jung’s model of the psyche is that the shadow is the complement to our conscious persona. Metaphorically, the shadow is thrown when the light of our persona meets the larger reality of our total being. For Jung, one of the most important primary goals of therapy was to enable individuals to begin to acknowledge and own their shadow. The shadow remains unconscious kept out of awareness by defense mechanisms such as repression or projection. It was inevitably cause psychological and interpersonal difficulties. In other words at times of stress, there is an uncoordinated return of the repressed, the unexpected emergence of the shadow into awareness will typically lead to intense feeling of guilt and unworthiness which leads to destructive acts of behavior.
