The origins of music like of anything eternal and saint are not exactly defined as it spreads all around the lands of the world. Like religion it searches the areas of every tiny corner of our planet touching the hearts, strengthening the feelings, bursting emotions. It is easily spread by the people travelling around the countries who bring their music to a new undiscovered areas, just as they bring with them their own faith or rituals.
The popularity of such a famous phenomenon like music proves its importance to people. Same relates to me: music has always meant a lot for me. It appeared in my life from the day I was born when I listened to mother’s lullaby; then during the school I visited piano classes and discovered the classical tenors as well as I found out about different modern genres of music; and now I am aware of most developing and ever existing kinds of music when being more or less defined in my preferences. My favour in music now falls to hip-hop and I would like to discuss this kind of music further in my paper.
The origins of these music directions come from African Americans who are known for their verbal and oral traditions to express history. These people have every next song for every new day of their lives, for almost every event or just sudden inspiration that crossed their minds.
Back in the days of slavery when slaves’ working on plantations entertained their selves with humming the rap motives and beating on any object in order to create something close to music we can easily say that Hip-Hop existed quite long time ago. Slaves expressed whatever they did or thought, but most of all they sang about the freedom – their dream personified in music. Nowadays the Hip-Hop music ahs become very popular as among the young people so among older individuals. It is on a new level of development now sounding every day on the radio, in TV musical clips, media release and even in a black church when a preacher pronouns a prayer. It partly went mainstream because of fashion and partly because true connoisseur of this art started to promote the Hip-Hop music. The reason why this kind of music became recognized and approved today is because it offers urban youth a chance to freely express their selves and their emotions. The rules set by other types of music are less consider by the youth who are eager to be original and sing about anything crossing their minds, even if it does not make any sense. Hip-Hop allows the songs about moon, the feelings to your beloved or the day you have spent, about anything that inspired you to expressing the feelings in music while using active gestures and animations.
One of the modern Hip-Hop CD releases which I would like to use as an example of my preferred style of music is the new album of Black Eyed Peas called “Elephunk”. To get the better understanding of this band’s music it is needed to take a look at its background. One thing that distinguishes this group from other Hip-Hop executers is that they release fun and inspiring music. On their previous albums didn’t lose Hip-Hop rhymes at a time when “Elephunt” album a little bit strays from the standard vein of Hip-hop motives. It combines several other types of music like jazz, funk and rock thus proposing to a dancehall completely new package of emotional experience. However Hip-Hop motive is a dominating in the “Elephunt” album.
“Hands Up” song is like an introduction to the main act of concert. It represents the new album as a powerful beginning to energetic and crazy action. The fun text and great lively music excites the audience and provides it with a positive enerhy: “ We goin’ make you move, We goin’ make it hot,Elbows above your heads peoples, holdin’ up the spot..!!”.
The song also lets the listener know that this album is going to be something different for BEP.
In a few tracks after the first song-introduction one lands into the most popular song of the CD – “Let’s Get Retarded,” which became the hit of last season. The song announces to “get stupid” and “retarded in here”. The energetic motives excites so much that people on the dance floor are ready to give themselves to the music ad seem to show a little care of the words outspoken.
All songs of “Elephunt” album are perfectly accepted by the public and approved by the critics. This is a good start for the people to become fans of Black Eyed Peas as when turning on the CD of this energetic group one becomes anxious to listen all of its songs.
